Mini-Course Offerings
These classes will last from four to six weeks. They will meet one day a week and last for two hours. For some classes, two different sections are offered: an afternoon and an evening class. Sign up for the time that works best for your busy schedule. Unless otherwise stated, the cost for the course will not include materials. Upon signing up and paying for a class, students will receive a materials list. If you are a visitor in the area or are unable to attend more than a class or so, please contact Carol. Arrangements can be made to accommodate you.
Play With Watercolor I (Two sections)
Five Wednesdays, August 29-September 26 Afternoon: 1:30- 3:30 pm
Evening: 6:00 -8:00 pm
Whether you have touched a brush before or not, this class will give you solid grounding in the basics of watercolor painting. Through a series of self-contained and simple, playful exercises, we will experiment with watercolor techniques like washes and wet-into-wet. We will also learn about brushes, palette colors, papers, and concepts in color mixing, color layering, and how to create the illusion of depth. Each student will receive lots of individual attention.
Fee: $125.00 (Does NOT include materials: paint brush, paints, palette, paper .
I will provide a simple material list for attendees.)
Draw Better/ Beginning Drawing I (Two Sections)
Five Thursdays, August 30-September 27 Afternoon: 1:30-3:30 pm
Evening: 6:00-8:00 pm
Have you ever wanted to record what you see around your home or on vacation? In this course, you will learn how to draw what you see with accuracy of scale, form, proportion, and perspective. We will explore shapes, line, shadow, and highlights with a variety of fun exercises. We will try our hand at contour drawings, doodles, and sketches. During each class, I will illustrate a technique and students will apply and experiment with those techniques. At the end of each class, you will have multiple drawings to take home with you.
Fee: $125.00 (Includes a few but not all materials. Does NOT include materials:
pencils, erasers, paper. I will provide a simple material list for attendees.)
Acrylic Still Life Painting Class (Two sections)
Five Fridays, August 31-September 28 Afternoon: 1:30- 3:30 pm
Evening 6:00- 8:00 pm
We will start from the very beginning. We will learn and practice various techniques, learn how to mix basic colors, handle our brushes, and create spatial illusion to create the impression of 3-D space on a flat surface. During the first four classes, I will illustrate a technique and students will apply and experiment with those techniques. All the while, we will paint various objects (bowls, bottles, fruits, vegetables, household items, flowers, cloth...) in increasingly complicated still life.
